End Of An Arrow-Era And Emily Bett Rickards Will Not Returning

It was announced in March of 2019 that the DC TV Universe would be reduced by 1 series. The long-running CW Arrow will end with an abbreviated 8th season.

Debuting October 2012, the show was based on DC Comics the Green Arrow and spawned the “Arrowverse”, which included crossovers “The Flash” (2014), “Supergirl” (2015), “Legends of Tomorrow” (2016), and 2 web series: “Vixen” (2015) and “Freedom Fighters: The Ray” (2017). The “Arrow” series has produced over 150 episodes.

BOWS

The bow-toting Oliver Queen, Stephen Amell, offered a tearful farewell on a recent video. In it, he spoke of the mythos and iconography of the show and how he hoped the show could continue on without him; how the run was “transformational” for him as an actor. In a tweet, Amell states “Playing Oliver Queen has been the greatest professional experience of my life…but you can’t be a vigilante forever”.

Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak/Overwatch), expressed her heartfelt reaction to the arrow ending: “without this show I would not have met the inspiring people nor those I have gotten to work with and get to work with every day.

Grant Gustin aka “The Flash”, got his start on season 2 of the series and offered: “-when we’re brought together for those grueling crossover episodes, it always results in something pretty special and not just a special kind of hell.”

FORWARD

Arrow Season 8’s 10 episodes will wrap up following a crossover with “The Flash” and “Supergirl” entitled “Crisis on Infinite Earths”. CW President Mark Pedowitz hinted at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour this past January the event will take some “big swings”.

The first 5 seasons had flashbacks of Queen’s character’s time on a hostile island and focused on the humanity of the character and how he was changed during the years he spent there. His return to Starling City, or Star City, is where the billionaire playboy turned hooded vigilante-hero hunts down the elitist criminals listed in his father’s notebook. After Oliver’s flashback arc completed, Arrow season 7 flashed-forward 20 years and explored the Queen’s legacy through his son and older protégé Roy Harper.

The show’s Executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Beth Schwartz stated: “this was a difficult decision to come to, but like every hard decision we’ve made for the past seven years, it was with the best interests of [the show] in mind.” They praised how the CW’s flagship show has birthed an entire universe of shows that carries the torch for many years to come, and a conclusion that honors the show is being crafted.

Season 7’s finale is set for May 13, 2019. Season 8 will air this fall and airs Mondays at 8pm ET/PT on the CW.
