Westworld Game iOS & Android

Westworld, the dystopian Wild-West-themed amusement park finally arrives on your handheld device. Created by Warner Brothers Games, the app is available for both Android and iOS devices.

You can create different kinds of hosts with unique character traits, but more on that later. As you level up by completing tasks, more guests arrive and you have to build more hosts to accommodate their needs.

The game starts you off as a trainee of the Delos Corporation; your first job is to learn the basics of running the world’s most sophisticated theme park.

The essential challenge is to create androids, referred to as hosts and match them with your newly arrived guests. The underground manufacturing room is where you can watch a machine dip a skeleton into a vat of pasty-white goo to make your new host.

The graphics are cartoonish but true to the spirit of the show. At times, the visuals are breathtaking. The environment is presented with parallax movements that zoom in and out in a pinch.

The above-ground town starts you off with a saloon and railroad station. You can enter various buildings, where you can meet your new guests. Your guests “want to live without limits,” and it is your job to oblige. While there is gunfighting, the game omits the bloody sadism from the show.

Your hosts will grow more sophisticated, with specific personality traits that can make them an asset or a menace. You can specify attributes such as aggression, sensuality, endurance, and cruelty. Your hosts can be killed outright or glitch when damaged and will require maintenance. After a while, you feel less like a highly-qualified master of a technological android-slave empire and more like the maid.

Each host that you create can play a few specific roles that satisfy matching guest desires. You must also create activities for your guests, such as building a bank for them to rob. You can also build a sheriffs office and a general store with credits that you earn.

The music from the original show is here, but the sound effects are repetitive. In fact, it sounds more like a casino slots game.

Westworld is not an easy pick-up and play type of game, at least not at first. There is a bit of a learning curve because the game presents a myriad of different buttons and graphs. The UX could use some improvement as there are way too many distracting “glitter” effects for even the most routine interactions. If you’re patient enough to learn all the nuances of the game though, you’ll certainly have a good time with it.
